Valencia has everything you could ever want! Living in Valencia allows you to experience unique, world-famous festivals such as "Las Fallas" and "La Tomatina". Valencia has a playful charm with almost none of the stress that you find in Barcelona and Madrid. At the same time, the city also offers an excellent night life, fantastic restaurants, great music festivals and beach clubs where you can party right through to the small hours of the morning. There are many international areas around Valencia, offering villas and apartments at very reasonable prices.
The centre of Valencia is packed with things to see and do. If you arrive in Valencia by train via the city's northern station, then you will be met by an impressive array of architecture where tradition and modernity meet and meld together marvellously. Close to the northern train station you will find Plaza de Ayuntamiento, the heart of Valencia. The area is surrounded by fantastic buildings where you will find restaurants, shops, bars and an exhilarating night life.
Valencia offers many traditional markets such as Mercado de Colon and Mercado de Ruzafa, but the most impressive market in town is Mercado Central, which is open every day except Sundays. Here you can buy Spanish specialities as well as nuts, meat, fruit and vegetables. Many restaurants in the city source their ingredients from this market as it offers the most authentic products possible for their traditional dishes. In front of the Mercado Central you will also find an old silk market, "La Lonja de la Seda", which is a gothic treasure from the 16th century.
El Barrio del Carmen, perhaps the most charming area in central Valencia, is the perfect place to lose yourself for a couple of hours. It's a place where you will always discover new details each time you pass through. El Carmen is also one of the most multicultural areas in Valencia, and the best place to head after a good meal if you are looking to dance the night away.
Outside of the old town is the winding, nine-kilometre-long, green and luscious park of Turia. The park is the perfect meeting place for all sorts of activities such as yoga, picnics and walking the dogs. It offers heaps of playparks for the children to try out and you will even come across a number of impressive sights. There's Valencia's Art and Science Museum, for example, and the Oceanografic, with its huge range of diverse marine animals, including sharks and whales. Finally, there's also the prize-winning Bioparc, where around 4000 animals live in harmonious natural environments.
About a ten minute drive from the centre, by a fantastic promenade with many restaurants and night clubs, you will find the city's beach with its wonderful fine-grained sand. It doesn't matter whether you come in winter or high season, you'll always find a space on this beach. And you will no doubt begin to understand why so many are keen to buy property in Valencia.
